CL4P-TP by HerrOtto
Project log: Here
Summary by HerrOtto
The decision to use CL4P-TP aka Claptrap from the game Borderlands as a design for the Rasberry Pi Competition was based on the fact that CL4P-TP itself isn't a very large robot compared to the gamer itself. It has a simple structure and in the game there are many more different colored Claptraps so the color-scheme can be changed as wel. But the real reason it became a robot design, is because I like them from when I was a little boy. There is something magical about them.
Combined with the fact that a I'm a PC gamer and the great wish to be a modder the decision was made in one day. The rest of the build took quite longer than expected. The case itself has a special feature in the form of the removable / sliding frame on the back. When the Pi is not in use all ports can be hidden and the case itself turns into a funny desktop companion. So it has two functions!
As for the pleasing part: YES! There are lots of things which I would do different next time, but the experience has made it all worth it. The entire build itself was great to do and the writing of the project log was an experience itself. I've never imagined before I started this that so much could be learned from one build. I still have all my limbs and fingers and my pride is mostly intact after looking at the photo's.
I am hoping that a lot of people have fun reading my log. There is one thing I would change on the build: the removable frame itself comes off the main body. When the Pi is in use the frame is lying next to it. I hope to improve this feature in a matter so that the frame itself stays on the body or that a different way of concealing the ports can be achieved.
